Welcome to World History: Syllabus
In this course students will study major turning points that shaped the modern world, from the late eighteenth century through the present, including cause and course of the two world wars. This course will provide the necessary tools to master the California Common Core Standards and is a DHSHS graduation requirement.
Units of Study
Class Expectations:
* Be in class on time.
Tardy students are expected to follow the tardy policy outlined in the parent/student handbook.
*Come to class prepared.
Students are expected to come to class every day with the proper supplies.
* Respectful to teacher and peers.
Students are expected to show respect and cooperation with all adults at school. Students are to respect others without disruption.
Show respect by NOT USING PROFANITY, not stealing, and not vandalizing property.
* Electronic Devices
Cell phones can only be used before school, after school or during break times unless given permission from the Teacher. Any kind of camera, including camera cell phones, are prohibited in locker rooms, classrooms and restrooms.
Desert Hot Springs High School and Palm Springs Unified School District assume no responsibility for lost, damaged, or stolen personal property.
* All rules in the handbook will be enforced.
*Required Materials-Student Texts (provided by the teacher)
-Pen (Blue or Black ink) and pencils
-Students must bring their district provided Chromebook fully charged to class every day. We will be using Google Classroom for most of our work.
Discipline Policy
Strike 1 Issue a reminder of the rule being broken
Strike 2 Formal warning.
Reminder of the rule being broken
Supportive action taken i.e. move to another seat, phone call home.
Place red card on desk (visual cue).
Strike 3 Administration referral, parent/guardian notification
If any offense is threatening to the teacher, peers, or student then security will be called to intervene immediately.
Grading Policy
Grading is based on: class work, effort, participation, homework, quizzes, tests and notebook. The grading scale is as follows:
4 90-100% A Advanced
3 75-89% B Proficient
2 60-74% C Basic
1 50-59% D Did not meet mastery
0-49% F Did not meet mastery
Major Projects = 60% percent of grade
(Textbook work and 1 - 2 projects given per quarter)
Minor Projects = 40% percent of grade
(Tests, classroom activities, daily bell work, etc.)
*Films/Movies/Guest Speakers:
When films are watched, it is expected that you as the student pay attention to the film or guest speaker. You may be asked to summarize the film or presentation: it is to your benefit to pay attention.
By signing the syllabus contract, your parents authorize you to view any films, movie clips, or presentations that are directly related to the course standards.
