Welcome to Civics/Economics:
In this course students will spend the first eighteen weeks of the class studying the basic workings of the United States government in order to prepare them to be in the position of an informed American citizen. In the second eighteen weeks, students will study the basic workings of the economic systems that affect their lives, country, and the world. This course will also provide the necessary tools to master the California Common Core State Standards, and is a DHSHS graduation requirement.
Class Expectations:
* Be on time.
Tardy students are expected to follow the tardy policy outlined in the parent/student handbook.
*Come to class prepared.
Students are expected to come to class every day with the proper supplies. Students are also expected to come to class with completed homework when due.
*Required Materials-Student Texts (provided by the teacher)
-Pen (Blue or Black ink) and pencils
-We will be using the Google Chrome Books on Google Classroom.
* Respectful to teacher and peers.
Students are expected to show respect and cooperation with all adults at school. Students are to respect others without disruption.
Show respect by NOT USING PROFANITY, not stealing, and not vandalizing property.
Cell phones can only be used before school, after school or during break times unless given permission from the Teacher.
Any kind of camera, including camera cell phones, are prohibited in locker rooms, classrooms and restrooms.
Desert Hot Springs High School and Palm Springs Unified School District assume no responsibility for lost, damaged, or stolen personal property.
All rules in the handbook will be enforced.
Discipline Policy
Strike 1 Issue a reminder of the rule being broken
Strike 2 Formal warning.
Reminder of the rule being broken
Supportive action taken i.e. move to another seat, phone call home.
Place red card on desk (visual cue).
Strike 3 Administration referral, parent/guardian notification
If any offense is threatening to the adults and peers then security will be called to intervene immediately.
Grading Policy
Grading is based on: class work, effort, participation, homework, quizzes, tests and notebook. The grading scale is as follows:
4 90-100% A Advanced
3 75-89% B Proficient
2 60-74% C Basic
1 50-59% D Below Basic
0-49% F Far below basic
Standards Mastery (Class Work) 75% of total grade
Tests, Quizzes, & Final 25% of total grade
